GxzaHealth, a pioneering telehealth platform providing critical healthcare in Gaza, has been awarded the Excellence and Innovation Prize by the Muslim Impact Forum. The organisation was recognised for its life-saving work in one of the world’s most difficult environments.
For founder Dr. Abdulah Haikal, the award is a landmark achievement. “This was our very first accomplishment as an organisation,” he shares. “For us, this was a big deal. It gave us recognition, credibility, and opened doors for new partners.”
An Unbearable Gap in Care
Gaza’s health system exists under overwhelming and constant strain. For countless people, access to doctors, specialists, and even a consistent supply of medicine is not just difficult – it is often impossible. In the face of this crisis, where conventional aid models falter, GxzaHealth was founded on a principle of direct action. The team chose not to wait, but to build – starting with a single patient and rapidly creating a new pathway to care.
A Digital Bridge to Health
GxzaHealth operates a fully remote telehealth platform that seamlessly connects patients in Gaza with a global network of volunteer doctors and specialists. Through this digital bridge, patients receive free medical consultations and psychosocial support. Prescriptions are then fulfilled by trusted partner pharmacies on the ground, ensuring that life-saving medicines reach those who need them most.
The organisation was built to be resilient. “We purposely built this organisation in a way that is adaptable to catastrophes,” Dr Abdulah explains. “That is what has made us stand out.”
Scaling the Lifeline
Building on its success, GxzaHealth is now developing a unified digital platform to streamline its services. This next phase will consolidate the various tools used for registration, consultation, and prescriptions into a single, secure system.
“This will make us more efficient and allow us to expand beyond Gaza,” Dr Abdulah says, outlining a vision to create a scalable model for telehealth in other fragile settings within the next 12 months.
The Heart of the Mission
Beyond the technology and logistics, the true driver of GxzaHealth is its purpose. It is this deep sense of mission that sustains the team through immense challenges.
“If your concern is only funding or success, you will burn out,” Dr Abdulah reflects. “What keeps you working hard every single day, sacrificing and never giving up, is the belief that when I stand before Allah, He will be pleased with me. That is what sustains us.”
GxzaHealth’s journey reflects what the Muslim Impact Forum Awards stand for: innovation forged in adversity, accountability in practice, and a vision for impact that extends far beyond recognition
