From Relief to Rehabilitation
Miles2Smile was founded in the aftermath of the 2020 North East Delhi riots, where thousands of families were displaced overnight. What began as emergency food and shelter programmes quickly evolved into long-term rehabilitation. The organisation rebuilt homes, opened schools, and launched livelihood initiatives to ensure survivors could rebuild not only their lives but also their futures.
Innovation in Community Care
At the heart of Miles2Smile’s work is an integrated approach: pairing immediate relief with structural solutions. Its schools provide quality education for children who might otherwise be excluded, while vocational programmes empower families to regain financial independence. By embedding mental health and trauma support within its services, the organisation ensures that healing addresses both physical and emotional needs.
Building Futures of Dignity
Looking ahead, Miles2Smile vision is not only to address immediate needs but to create systems that prevent exclusion and vulnerability from becoming generational.
The Excellence and Innovation Prize recognises precisely this kind of leadership: rooted in compassion, driven by innovation, and focused on long-term impact. Miles2Smile’s journey demonstrates that recovery is not only about rebuilding what was lost, but about creating communities where dignity, justice, and opportunity can thrive.
